August Challenge - Week 1 Update

So, that's the first week of my personal 'no-spend' challenge over and, to be honest, I've quite enjoyed thinking about what I'm spending rather than just going ahead and buying something just because it catches my eye or because I 'think' I need it. I did have a couple of small lapses this week but I'm not going to beat myself up about it and I'll just have to do better next week.

So here is the list of things I could have spent my money on but decided not to.

A scarf from Ollie and Nic £22.00
A book offer in WH Smith £ 8.00
A book for my Kindle £ 3.90
Treats for my horse £ 7.00
Saving me £40.90

These are the unnecessary things I did buy this week:

A book for my Kindle £0.86
A box of 4 cupcakes £4.00
Costing me £4.86

So my overall total saving this week was £36.04!

In a normal week I would have bought those things without a second thought and, whilst they would have been nice to have, I don't feel I'm missing out at all.

So, roll on next week!! I WILL remain strong and if I feel myself giving in to temptation I'll just have another little peek at my bag.

Thank you Femke. It certainly is all about thinking about it. It's also slightly worrying that I normally would just spend that without thinking about it. :)

I'm so excited for you! Isn't it amazing when you stop and think about all this little stuff ... not only where the money goes, but adding it to your life in general? You are going to have that bag in no time!

It is amazing especially when you realise that normally you would just buy something because you can and although it makes you happy at the time it actually adds nothing to your life - except more clutter. If I remember rightly, this all started way back when you decided to have a clear out and de-clutter your life so I have you to thank for this new way of thinking :)

Stop! It's Going Too Fast and I Want to Get Off!

Carousel Okay - I don't actually mean that I want things to stop so that I can get off because I'm having too much fun but, over the last few months, my life has become a daily whirlwind of new businesses, taking on new projects, building websites and building a brand and it's not showing any sign of slowing down. I have loved every minute of it so far but it has meant that so many other things in my life have had to be put on the back burner whilst all this has been going on, including Cupcakes and Cadenzas. The Sad Songs Blogfest

This is the first time I've ever taken part in a Blogfest and it has been great fun! Thank you to Diane for organising it. I have to admit that I could have come up with way more than 10 but I decided to give myself a limit. A-Z Blogging Challenge: B is for 'Baa Baa Black Sheep'

Baa baa black sheep 'Baa baa black sheep, have you any wool? Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full, One for the master, one for the dame, And one for the little boy who lives down the lane.' Although this rhyme was first published in 1744 it is believed to have been around for much longer. In fact, it is thought that it was written in the Middle Ages during the reign of King Edward II (1307 - 1327). This seemingly innocent children's nursery rhyme about a black sheep yielding three bags of wool actually has political undertones like many of the nursery rhymes from that era. During the Middle Ages the wool industry in England was huge and wool was a very valuable commodity. England produced the best wool in Europe and peasants were required to pay their taxes in the form of sacks of wool. They gave a third to the King (the master), a third to the nobility (the dame) and they were allowed to keep the final third for themselves (the little boy who lived down the lane)
