'When man-eater Mattie Johns agrees to star on a dating game show to save her ailing recruitment business, she's confident she'll sail through to the end without letting down the perma-guard she's perfected from years of her love 'em and leave 'em dating strategy. After all, what can go wrong with dating a few losers and hanging out long enough to pick up a juicy £200,000 prize? Plenty, Mattie discovers, when it's revealed that the contestants are four of her very unhappy exes. Can Mattie confront her past to get the prize money she so desperately needs, or will her exes finally wreak their long-awaited revenge? And what about the ambitious TV producer whose career depends on stopping her from making it to the end? Who will win The Hating Game?'
'The Hating Game' is Talli Roland's debut novel and if you love chick-lit/rom-com, you will love this book.
Mattie Johns is an attractive, hard headed, man-eating business woman. The problem is that her business is failing, the only man she truly loved has done the dirty on her and she's flat broke however, she gets offered the chance to star in a reality dating show with a prize fund of £200,000 and it begins to look as though all her money problems could be over. All she has to do is make it to the end of the show. Sounds simple enough. What she doesn't know though is that the 'dates' are some of her ex boyfriends and the show's devious producers will stop at nothing to get their ratings up.
This book is very funny from start to finish. I couldn't wait to see what the show producers had up their sleeves for each date. Imagine a game show which combines 'The Bachelor', 'Take Me Out', 'Blind Date' and 'The Running Man' and you just about have 'The Hating Game'.
The characters are all very believable and it was very easy to picture each one. Everyone does things for a reason in real life and the characters in the story are no different although I do have to say that Silver's sausage eating habit annoyed me intensely, but you'll have to read the book to find out about that.
This is a book I would highly recommend and I now can't wait to read Roland's new book which comes out later this month - Watching Willow Watts'.
Happy reading everyone,
