How many times have you started a diet only to give up a few days later?
What about that book you began writing years ago which is still lying unfinished in your desk drawer?
Is there someone out there who you fell out with over some silly misunderstanding years ago but can't bring yourself to call?
Do you ever wonder what your life would have turned out like if you had only had been courageous enough to ask a certain someone out on a date?
If you would like to be able to achieve just about anything you want in life, then read on.
Have you ever looked at someone and wondered how they became so successful, rich, confident, popular, talented, all of the those things (delete as appropriate), whilst you are struggling just to get by on a daily basis with no money, greasy hair and an uncanny knack for attracting bad luck? I'm not talking about people who are born into wealth or fame and the lifestyle that comes with it. I'm talking about every day, run of the mill people who are our colleagues, neighbours, friends and acquaintances - ordinary people.
Well, let me tell you a secret. It's all in the way we talk to ourselves and I don't mean muttering away whilst we're doing the housework or walking down the street. I'm talking about our 'Internal Dialogue'.
Our minds are made up of three parts. Firstly we have the CONSCIOUS mind which is constantly in use for example when we read, write and talk to others. We use it as we go about our daily activities. You are using yours right now as you read this. Then we have the UNCONSCIOUS mind. Fears, phobias and inhibitions come from our unconscious mind although positive stuff can be stored there too. However, it is the SUBCONSCIOUS mind I want to talk about today and the effects of 'negative internal dialogue'.
When you look in a mirror what do you tell yourself? Do you see all the good things about yourself or do you see only the bad things? If you attempt to learn a new skill and you find it quite difficult do you give yourself a break and then try again with a different approach or do tell yourself that you are stupid, that you will never be able to master it, or that you are just plain useless? Do you go around telling yourself that you're always broke, you will never have any money or that people like you aren't meant to be rich?
The thing is, the subconscious mind is always busy. It stores away everything that you say to yourself. It is constantly plotting away in the background, analysing everything that you tell it and formulating a plan. The subconscious mind knows and understands the things that you want most in life and it works hard to ensure that you get whatever it is that you want. This is all very well if you constantly feed it positives such as' I love life, I love myself, I have beautiful hair, I deserve to be rich/successful/happy etc.
But what if, (and many, many people do this on a daily basis), you constantly feed it negatives? What if you tell yourself every day in life that you hate yourself, you are stupid, you deserve to be fat because you eat too much, no-one could ever love you, you deserve to be hit by your partner/ spouse, you wish you were dead, etc? Unfortunately, the subconscious mind doesn't differentiate between good and bad thoughts. It just carries on formulating a plan to ensure you get what you want out of life. The power of the subconscious mind is frightening. Used in a positive way you can can achieve everything you desire but used in a negative way you will achieve everything you think you deserve. The subconscious mind never makes a mistake. It is infallible. You will get whatever it is you wish for.
When Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote 'Be careful what you set your heart on, for it will surely be yours' this is what he was talking about. We know that saying better today as 'be careful what you wish for'.
So, from now on I want you to really listen to what you are telling yourself. Be positive. Praise yourself. Tell yourself how wonderful you are. Look in the mirror and tell yourself that you are beautiful; that you deserve to be rich, thin, happy, successful - whatever it is that you want. Be aware throughout the day of negative thoughts creeping in and stamp them out immediately. Eventually you will not only 'talk the talk' but you will also start to 'walk the walk'. Act as though you are everything you want to be and that you have achieved everything you have ever desired. In time your subconscious mind will formulate a plan to ensure that you achieve those things. This isn't an easy thing to do if you aren't used to doing it but, guaranteed, if you take time to do this every day you will eventually get the life you want. In fact, the life you deserve.
Until the next time,
