The Big Fitness Push

I have been on a quest to find my 'mojo' because, for the last few months, I seem to have lost it. (To be honest I had no idea what 'losing your mojo' meant and I had to look it up but now that I know what it is, it sounds about right).

Since just after Christmas I have found everything to be a bit of a struggle and I have really lacked motivation. I have been cutting back on my teaching and coaching to allow me to get on with other projects but, despite having more time, I have struggled to do anything with it. I haven't done anything with my craft business since March, I'm almost at a standstill with my blogging and I feel all Twittered and Facebooked out. The other thing I have done less and less of is exercise and that's primarily what this post is about.

I used to be very active. I danced, ran, cycled, competed on my horses, took my dogs for long, long walks and went to the gym 5 times a week but gradually, really since moving to the North East of Scotland a few years ago, I have become less and less active to the point of doing virtually nothing and I'm sure this is what's causing my lack of motivation. As we all know - exercise releases endorphins (the body's 'feel good' chemicals) and also decreases stress hormones so , to me, it makes sense.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I got on my exercise bike yesterday and after 20 minutes of moderate effort I could hardly stand. That's when the fact that I had become incredibly unfit really hit me! I was shocked and I made up my mind to go on a fitness push there and then but, I did feel much better for having done some exercise, albeit a very small amount and so I have set up a new Facebook page all about getting fit and living a healthy lifestyle. You can also follow my blog on the same topics at Indigo Horizons although I am still setting the blog up.

So, if any of you would like to get fitter and/or healthier and would like some company along the way then please visit my Facebook page and join in the fun. It's always so much easier when you don't have to do it on your own.

See you there!!

What a fabulous idea. I always feel so much better when I exercise regularly. But I ALWAYs find cop outs. I'm too busy, I'm too tired, and I don't have a gym are my biggest ones.

I don't Facebook, but I'll definitely be checking out your other blog!

Hi Daisy, it is amazing how exercise can make you feel so much better. I'm pretty good at making excuses too usually but this time I'm determined.
The other bog is still in the very early stages but hopefully it will really get going soon. It was originally a motivational blog but I think it will be better as a health/fitness blog.

Denise: I am going through the same thing. I'm getting back into running and since January I've started eating healthier and watching my portion sizes. I've lost 15 pounds. I'm excited to join you on the journey!

15 lbs is fantastic Luana! Well done.

I'm also trying to make healthy choices and eat less and already I'm feeling better for it and more energetic.

Looking forward to keeping up with your progress. Thanks for joining in.

What a great idea! I wouldn't say I have been lacking in exercise, but I am very inconsistent with it. So maybe this is the motivation I need, especially because at the moment, I'm having knee issues and can't run. So I am forced to do other things, which is fine, but other activities don't make me feel like running does. So I will be joining your Facebook page!

Hi Kanalt. Sorry to hear about your knee. I hope it's nothing too serious and will be healed soon.

I know how difficult it is to stay motivated especially when you're trying to do it on your own. That's one of the reasons that I thought I would do all this.

Looking forward to hearing how you're getting on with it all :-)

The Sad Songs Blogfest

This is the first time I've ever taken part in a Blogfest and it has been great fun! Thank you to Diane for organising it. You can find Diane's blog by clicking here  Check out her list of inspirational, sad songs. I have had a ball going through old cds, trying to pick out my top 10 sad songs that inspire me. I have to admit that I could have come up with way more than 10 but I decided to give myself a limit. These songs hold no particular memories for me but they are songs that tug at my heart strings every time I hear them and if I'm ever feeling down and wanting to wallow in self-pity, then these are the songs I would put into my playlist and play whilst drinking a bottle glass or two of wine. Are you sitting comfortably? (click on any of the titles to hear the songs on youTube) Hello by Evanescence . The haunting piano accompaniment and the striking voice of Amy lee make this (in my opinion) one of the most moving songs this band have ever released. All O

Stop! It's Going Too Fast and I Want to Get Off!

Carousel Okay - I don't actually mean that I want things to stop so that I can get off because I'm having too much fun but, over the last few months, my life has become a daily whirlwind of new businesses, taking on new projects, building websites and building a brand and it's not showing any sign of slowing down. I have loved every minute of it so far but it has meant that so many other things in my life have had to be put on the back burner whilst all this has been going on, including Cupcakes and Cadenzas. It will all have been worth it in the long run but I just want to say thanks to everyone who has stuck around and not abandoned this blog and to say that I haven't forgotten about it or you. Why I love Cupcakes and Cadenzas so much and refuse to give up on it it is that it was the very first blog that I set up and is therefore my 'baby' as far as blogs go. I have several other blogs set up for various business ventures but Cupcakes and Cadenzas is

A-Z Blogging Challenge: C is for Crooked

For anyone who doesn't know the rhyme CROOKED in this instance is pronounced KROOK-ID as opposed to KROOKT There was a crooked man 'There was a crooked man and he walked a crooked mile, He found a crooked sixpence upon a crooked stile. He bought a crooked cat, which caught a crooked mouse and they all lived together in a little crooked house.' I always loved this nursery rhyme as a child. I had a beautiful nursery rhyme book and it had a gorgeous drawing of the crooked man with his crooked cat and crooked house etc. I used to imagine what it might be like to live in such a house but, yet again, all is not as innocent as it seems. It is believed that this rhyme has its origins back in the reign of Charles I. The crooked man is reputed to be Scotland's General Sir Alexander Leslie, 1st Earl of Leven who was one of the Covenanters who signed the Covenant in 1638 securing religious and political freedom for Scotland. The crooked stile represents the border
